Greater Dandenong council includes:

Bangholme, Dandenong, Dandenong North, Dandenong South, Keysborough, Lyndhurst, Noble Park, Noble Park North, Springvale and Springvale South.

Greater Dandenong Tree issue:

Greater Dandenong’s current tree canopy is one of the lowest in Melbourne, so Council have committed to planting more trees in public spaces and maintaining high tree planting and establishment standards for both Council and developers.

Fallen trees

Contact Council on 8571 1000 if you finda fallen branch or tree in a street or public area. They will act straight away to remove any dangers.

Tree Removal

A permit is required to remove protected/canopy trees. Protected trees have a diameter of 40cm when the trunk is measured at 1.4m above the ground. This applies to dead trees as well.

Trees declared noxious weeds or deemed an immediate hazard by a qualified arborist can be removed without a permit.

Tree pruning

A permit is not required for pruning, so long as the following conditions are met:

  • the pruning is carried out by a qualified arborist in accordance with Australian Standard AS 4373–2007 Pruning of amenity trees and the Arborist has provided their qualifications
  • the property owner has kept photographs of trees before and after the work
  • in an emergency, where any part of a tree is an immediate hazard to life and or property, as determined by a minimum AQF Level 5 Arborist.

Please be aware that the term “significant tree register” refers to a record of trees that hold cultural importance for the Council. This register is maintained by the Council itself.

Council will not remove trees for the following reasons:

1. Reducing/eliminating leaf litter or tree debris

2. To establish and maintain turf on nature strips

3. To reduce overshadowing and/or preservation of solar access

4. To satisfy unjustified private property damage claims.
